"Any other way?" is a very generic and wrong name for a title. Changed. / GeoB99
What kind of router do you have? What steps did you follow on the documentation guide? Did you allow network traffic between your server and the client?
There are like a plethora of questions to ask since saying "my server never shows up" is just not enough. At that point we can't help you much till you provide with more information. Have you checked twice if you port forwarded your router? CS2D's UDP port is 36963 and it must be port forwarded in order for players to join onto your server. Depending on your router, each router has different configurations and how to setup. Looking at the manual guide of your router would help.
The guide isn't that complicated as you stated, whether you just didn't follow every step by step in its entirety or you're actually lazy to read it whatsoever.
not really, I couldn't find my way to getting most of the tips to work, the funny thing is all I had to do was use hamachi...why don't you just recommend that on the guide?
Because installing Hamachi is impracticable for everyone who wants to host a real public server which is available to everyone, including people NOT being in the same Hamachi network.
It only works if you want to play with specific friends which are in the same Hamachi network. So for playing with friends it's an okay solution but in all other scenarios it doesn't help. May add a note about it though. Thanks for the suggestion!
I bet many people just want to play with one or two friends anyways. But actually he couldn't join when he was on my network, but when I was on the network and he wasn't it worked. So maybe this can be a general way to host a server
Also, how do you stack functions? It would be SSOOO useful to be able to do this. I read a thread about doing some complex stuff with a hex editor?? wtf. Anyways already tried that anyway and it didn't work. Can you guys just update the editor?
You mean stackable entities? The game is not designed to allow that and a huge ton of things would have to be changed to make that possible. Including changes which would break existing scripts. So no, won't happen. Sorry. In most cases there are ways to get around this. e.g. offsets in many entities.
The steps for configuring port forward varies slightly, from routers to routers. But they all includes going to the router's setting page, setting port foward(and DHCP).
@ nuts4ever: Some entities have offsets in their settings so you don't have to place them where you need them but can work with the offset. Of course this does not work with all entities.
Maybe you can make a thread in the map section about this topic and describe in detail what you want to do.
